Baroque

Summary

Baroque art was supported and encouraged by the Catholic Church. At the start of the 17th century, Baroque art spread from Rome to assorted countries, and continued to evolve when artists started using the style in their own work.

While many paintings were concerned with Religion, it wasn’t the only subject the style of art featured; the Baroque style has been seen in other subject’s as well.

Successful as it was, Baroque Art was replaced by the more stylish and complex Rococo style.

History

Baroque art developed in Italy’s capital Rome, during the late 16th century and was a response to the Mannerist style which conquered the Late Renaissance.
