AboutEugène Henri Paul Gauguin was born in Paris on the 7th June 1848. At a year old, Gauguin, his father and family set off for Peru. Disastrously, his father died en route.. For the next seven years, Gauguin spent his time in Lima. He and his family returned to France in 1855. At the age of 17, Gauguin joined the merchant marine. Within his fire years of serving, he rose to second lieutenant. In 1871, Gauguin again returned to Paris and worked with a stockbroker. For a decade he was a successful business man, finding a wife, a danish girl called Sophie Gad. They had five children together. In the early 1870's, Paul Gauguin bcame a leisurely painter. His works were noticed and by 1876 he was at a level so high that a landscape painting of his was accepted for exhibition. He started painting Impressionist and wanted to become a professional painter. In 1887, Gauguin went on a artisic venture int the tropics of Panama and Martiniue. On return, he brought back art, bright and vivid with colour. By 1891 Gauguin was one of the main artistic figures in Paris. He left for Tahiti, but then yet again he returned to Paris in 1893. Gauguin went back to Tahiti as a sick man. Conflict broke out between him and the local authorities. Gauguin was sentenced to three months in jail, but died of a heart attack on May 8th 1903.
