Charles Abbot, 1st Baron Colchester by Thomas Lawrence

Charles Abbot, 1st Baron Colchester by Thomas Lawrence, 1824

Original Size: 25 x 30"

Charles Abbot, Baron of Colchester, commissioned this portrait in 1824 when Lawrence was at the height of his popularity.

He has been described as the greatest image-maker of the Regency and the reign of George IV. His decadent fabrics and sympathetic rendering of face and form guaranteed his popularity amongst the glitterati of courts and theatre.

This is one of the few paintings signed by the artist.
