From Print to Painting : Over the Waves

If you have a much loved print which has become a little tired or damaged, but you are unable to find a replacement, don’t despair we may have a perfect solution.

Our client, Sue, had a print which had been much loved but was now faded and damaged. The print had belonged to Sue’s grand parents and had special meaning for her mother but time, grime and some smoke damage from an AGA cooker had left their mark. Attempts to clean the print had only made it worse and it was beyond saving. A replacement was sought but sadly the print was no longer available: Could we help?

Absolutely! Using photos and agreeing a brief for colour reference and remedial work with Sue was relatively straight forward and we asked one of our artists to produce an oil painting reproduction of the original called “Over the waves” by celebrated marine artist Charles Napier Hemy RA (1841 – 1917)

The beautiful result has restored the colour, vibrancy and drama of the original and is presented in a natural Oak picture frame with the original print in the back, keeping a much loved old friend safe, hidden behind their new “old friend”.
