The Awakening of Adonis - John William Waterhouse

This painting was part of a double commission for a customer of ours in Malta.

The original was painted by John William Waterhouse in 1899 and is now held in a private collection so a reproduction is an ideal way to get a closer look.

The painting depicts the bittersweet story of Adonis and Aphrodite. After he was killed by a jealous God, Aphrodite's love for him gave him second life and here we see him being woken. The red anemones surrounding him have been stained by both his blood and hers as she was cut on the thorns. It is one of the most important and popular Greek myths, and people all over the world still celebrate annually.

We were extremely happy with the reproduction of this painting, the detail and colour has been captured perfectly.

"Paintings received in excellent condition. Remarkable resemblance to original. Looking forward to ordering a couple of more paintings in the near future!"
